Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign a ‘world-class’ forward for under-fire boss Thomas Frank, as the Dane looks to improve his squad further up the field after sealing a deal for Conor Gallagher.

Tottenham sign Conor Gallagher for £34m after Villa hijacking

Spurs have struck a £34m deal with Atlético Madrid to sign Gallagher, with the England international completing his medical on Tuesday ahead of signing a five-and-a-half-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The 25-year-old flew into London on Tuesday to finalise the transfer after Spurs moved swiftly to hijack Aston Villa’s pursuit of the former Chelsea midfielder. Villa had verbally agreed a loan deal with an obligation to buy, but Tottenham’s willingness to pay the full fee upfront reportedly swung the deal in their favour.

There are also suggestions that the Lilywhites offered more money in total, and once Gallagher signalled his willingness to return to London, it was curtains for Villa in the race.

Frank also made a personal intervention by calling Gallagher directly to convince him that his future lay in north London rather than Villa Park.

The Spurs boss had made midfield reinforcements his priority following the devastating blow of losing Rodrigo Bentancur for three months, with the Uruguay international undergoing surgery on a hamstring problem he sustained in last week’s defeat at Bournemouth.

Gallagher now brings considerable Premier League experience to the club, having made 136 appearances in the competition for West Brom, Crystal Palace and Chelsea before his £38m move to Atletico in August 2024.

The midfielder enjoyed a solid debut campaign in Spain, making 50 appearances and scoring four goals as a regular under Diego Simeone.

However, his fortunes declined this season with just four La Liga starts, despite featuring in Thursday’s Supercopa de Espana defeat to Real Madrid.

The midfielder’s desire to force his way into Thomas Tuchel’s England plans ahead of this summer’s World Cup then reportedly accelerated his decision to return to the Premier League.

While Gallagher is a savvy signing on paper and undoubtedly strengthens Frank’s eleven, the Dane’s other serious concern is a real lack of attacking options.

Mohammed Kudus will be out until April after picking up an injury against Sunderland, while both James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski are still out with long-term injury problems of their own.

This has made the addition of another class forward one of Frank’s top priorities this month, and Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi has already been linked.

Journalist Dean Jones shared that news earlier this week, and he’s now provided another update.

Speaking to TEAMtalk, Jones states that Tottenham have been ‘offered’ the chance to sign Adeyemi, following reports that Dortmund value him at around £60 million this month.

In response, fellow journalist Bailey affirmed that Spurs will be targeting a winger as their ‘next major’ signing after Gallagher. While Adeyemi could prove a costly addition, the Germany international’s performances suggest he could be worth it.

At just 23-years-old, the winger has already earned 11 senior Germany caps, with Adeyemi also racking up 32 goals and 22 assists in 131 appearances for Dortmund.

Niko Kovač has already branded him a truly ‘world-class’ forward to watch out for, and his versatility to operate as both a centre-forward and second-striker could be invaluable to Frank.

Dominic Solanke has only just returned to fitness, while concerns have surrounded Richarlison’s suitability this season.

Randal Kolo Muani is also due back at PSG after his straight loan deal concludes, meaning Frank needs to think about how he could fill the striker role long-term, if he even stays at the Tottenham helm for that much longer.
