Spanish side Malaga are ready to end Dimitar Berbatov’s ill-fated stint at Old Trafford with a summer bid, according to The Daily Mail.

The Bulgarian forward spent 2011-12 as a bit-part player with Sir Alex Ferguson preferring to select Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez ahead of him.

The veteran attacker has one year left on his deal with the Premier League giants, but with first-team opportunities something of a commodity the striker is expected to move clubs this transfer window.

Malaga finished fourth in La Liga last term and as such are keen to further strengthen their squad this summer in anticipation of Champions League football in 2012-13.

The Andalusian side are thought to be weighing up a move for Schalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar also, but Berbatov would offer a more affordable option in their search for a new hitman.
